NSW Fair Trading has produced a new Guide on Deck and Balcony Safety which can be downloaded from their website at www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au.
A link to the guide is on their home page under "What's New". Property managers should download a copy as it is the landlord's responsibility to maintain rented premises in a reasonable state of repair under the Residential Tenancies ACt 2010.
The guide gives you tips on the maintenance and repair of balconies and decks and how to identify balconies that may be unsafe. Recent deaths and injuries in NSW and other states has brought the issue of unsafe balconies to the fore.
