What you will learn:


NSW Fair Trading requires that you are competent in the following units prior to applying for a Certificate of Registration:

  • CPPDSM4080A - Work in the real estate industry
  • CPPDSM4008A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work
  • CPPDSM4007A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
  • CPPDSM3019 - Communicate with clients in the property industry


The minimum expected time for completion is approximately 2 weeks and the deadline for successful course completion (including marking and the issue of a statement of attainment) is 20th March, 2020 as this course will be superseded by CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice on the 23rd March, 2020 and you must apply to NSW Fair Trading prior to this date if enrolling in this course. (Note course completion times may vary depending on many factors such as workshop tutorial attendance, the amount of time set aside for self-paced study or the amount of RPL granted). Participants are required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test as a Government requirement. The purpose of this test is to check your readiness and suitability for the course.

NSW Real Estate Registration Certificate Assessment

Regardless of your chosen method of study you will need to complete the required activities and assessments.


Our assessments are designed to substantiate your ability to apply acquired skill and knowledge to the workplace and may include a combination of the following:


Short answer questions * Research activities * Group activities * Role plays * Projects and case studies


Upon successful completion, your Statement of Attainment will be sent to you within 30 days of the program completion and this is the evidence you will need to provide to your new employer to show you have met the educational requirements.



NSW Fair Trading issue all Certificates of Registration and Real Estate Licences. Application forms can be downloaded from their website. Participants should note that even though they have met the educational requirements, that they must meet other requirements of NSW Fair Trading as to residency and character before a Certificate or Licence is issued.

What is a Certificate of Registration?

A Certificate of Registration is a certificate issued by NSW Fair Trading that allows the holder to work in a real estate office, undertaking the work of a real estate agent under the supervision of a Licensed Real Estate Agent.

How do I become a Real Estate Agent in New South Wales?

To become a holder of a Certificate of Registration you need to complete a course that includes the 4 units of competency set down as the education requirements by NSW Fair Trading as well as meeting their other requirements as to character and residency.

To be a fully licensed real estate agent you need to meet their education requirements which is that you hold the qualification CPP40307 - Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) as well as meeting their other more stringent requirements as to residency, character and financial history.

When undertaking the Certificate of Registration Training Course, what am I required to complete?

You are required to gain competency in four units from the CPP07 Training Package.

The four units of competency from the CPP07 Training Package are:

  • CPPDSM3019 - Communicate with clients as part of agency operations
  • CPPDSM4080A - Work in the real estate industry,
  • CPPDSM4008A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work,
  • CPPDSM4007A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work.

How long does the Certificate of Registration Training Course take?

The length of time it will take you to finish the course will depend on many things. Firstly it will depend on what knowledge you have of real estate operations in NSW, and secondly on how much time you set aside to read the learner’s guides and undertake the assessments. You have up to six months to complete the course, but we have found that some participants have successfully completed the course within a week when they have set aside the time to do so.

How long do I have to complete the Certificate of Registration Training Course?

You have up to six (6) months to complete the course. If for some reason you cannot complete it in that time, you can request an extension of time to allow you submit all your assessments.

If I choose to complete the Certificate of Registration Training Course online, will I receive any support?

The support we offer our online students is something we are very proud of. Despite our sophisticated online messaging system, we also hold regular webinars and Q & A sessions on the course content. We see it as our job to get you through the course and this is one we take very seriously!

Once I have completed the Certificate of Registration Training Course is there anything else I need to do?

Once you have successfully completed the course, you need then to apply to NSW Fair Trading for your Certificate of Registration, supplying them with a copy of the Statement of Attainment we send you to show that you have met their educational requirements.

We also send you an information pack with your Statement of Attainment, which includes the NSW Fair Trading application form and full instructions on how to apply to NSW Fair Trading.

How much does it cost to complete the Certificate of Registration Training Course?

The full cost of undertaking the course is as follows:

What if I fail an assessment?

When you undertake our course it is our responsibility to give you all the learning tools you need to that at the end of the course you are competent in all the units of competency.

Should you be found “not satisfactory” in any of your assessment tasks, our assessor will contact you and explain fully what you need to do the be found competent and so successfully finish the course. This could include further reading or training we do not fail participants. You will have up to three chances to submit an assessment. If after your third submission you still have not successfully completed the course we will discuss fully the options available to you. Your rights and responsibilities as a participant in our courses are set out in the Participant’s Handbook, which is available on our website.
